Online business, Amazon.com account set up

We absolutely love that Amazon has created a platform where anyone can set up an online business and sell books online.

Not only is it available to anyone, it is designed in such away that setting up online business and selling your first books is a snap. In this lesson, we are going to provide a step-by-step tutorial for setting up your account. The only things you will need are an e-mail address and a bank account.

When you have finished reading this lesson, click on this link or the link on bottom of the page to go to the Amazon frontpage. This link will take you main page for Amazon.com. Look at the top of the page for a link that reads “New customer start here”. This link will take you to the sign-in page.

Under the heading “What is your email address?,” enter the e-mail address where you wish to receive all of your correspondences with Amazon and your customers. Below this you will see two bullets. Click on the one that reads, “No, I am a new customer.” Then click on the “Sign in using our secure server” button. You will be shown a second page.

This page is for new Amazon members. In the top form, you are asked to enter your name. You should choose a name that you wish to go by on Amazon.com. We chose to use the company name we created for our online business. Below the name, you will be asked to retype your email. This is important, as you want to be sure to receive all of your correspondence with Amazon.com and your customers. At the bottom of the page you will be asked to provide a password twice. Be sure to choose a secure password. We like to mix letters and numbers as this increases security. Click on the “Continue” button to open your account.

You have created your Amazon account and are now able to buy and sell books online using Amazon. We strongly urge you to take some time and explore the Amazon site. Before you move on to selling books, it is a good idea to try buying a few books so that you understand what it is that your customers are experiencing. Consider buying one of the first edition reference books that we recommend in the reference library lesson.

When you are ready to take a look at the selling functions of the Amazon platform, you can click on the “Your account” link in the upper right hand corner of the screen. This will take you to your account page.

This is the page you use to change your account settings and contact info. It is a good idea to explore some of the options that are available on this page. When you are ready to move on simply click on the “Your Seller Account” link that resides in the Marketplace section of your right sidebar. You should be taken to your seller account dashboard, where all of your sales tools and account information is available.

The final step, and the most important, is to configure your seller account. To do this you need to click on the link called “Seller Account Information.” Here you will want to edit all of the sections. The information that you provide on this page will allow Amazon to disperse monies to you when you have sold books. Be sure to add your bank account and credit card information carefully. Some sellers choose to open a separate account solely for Amazon transactions.
